Jet bombard Boko Haram as they re-group to storm Yobe State

Believe me, this is the kind of news I want to be hearing from Nigerian military. Boko Haram should not be allowed to attack any part of Nigeria. As soon as they are re-grouping, bombard them. Simple!

Air Force jets were said to have heavily pounded Boko Haram insurgents as they re-grouped to launch yet another attack on Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

Reports filtered into the town that the insurgents were regrouping at Garin Itace (firewood town) which is about 20km on the outskirts of Damaturu, to re-launch an attack on the town.
Security sources said some local residents sighted the terrorists and alerted security agents who this time around took proactive steps to attack them out before their plans were hatched. The jet bombarded them seriously.

The sound of bombardment by the jet fighter coupled with a pocket of gunshots during the operations sent most residents back to their homes before the 6pm that the curfew took effect. Some had to run.

According to SR, Governor Gaidam who was returning to Yobe was turned back to Kano by security.

A source said “the governor’s convoy was almost at Bulkachuwa in Dambam LGA of Bauchi state when the security advised him to turn back for fear of mistaken airstrike on his convoy”.

Also, more hideouts and escape routes of the insurgents have been blocked.

Fresh insights from intelligence gathered by the military confirmed the desperation of Boko Haram to take over Maiduguri and Damaturu, both capitals of Borno and Yobe States.

“Provoked by the daring and antics of terrorists, the Nigerian troops have continued to rain devastating blows on their (terrorists’) hideouts and escape routes," a source security revealed.

Undisclosed number of terrorists were killed, no personnel or civilian was affected in the latest effort

Fight Against Boko Haram: Police Have Failed Us - Ex-Army Chief

Ex Chief of Army Staff,  Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), has blasted the nations police force saying their lackluster behavior paved way to the spread of Boko Haram in the north.Dambazau A.B COAS Former COAS. Dambazau He said that the police have failed to in the discharge of its statutory duties and thats why the army now had to take over the Northeast where the insurgency have crippled the socio-economic activities. Dambazau revealed this after giving a lecture titled:”Education, Security and National Development: The Case of Nigeria” Wednesday at the 61st Interdisciplinary Research Discourse organised by the Post Graduate School, University of Ibadan. He went on to state that due to the failure of the police force, soldiers had to be deployed in these parts of the nation. He said: “The activities of Boko Haram have affected the education of the Northeast and it’s spreading across the whole of northern region. Security is a contemporary challenge we are facing as a nation. The world can never have peace except people have peace in their daily lives.
“It will impossible for nations to achieve any of its major goals without adequate security. We don’t have a functional law enforcement institution in this country and it’s a major problem for the nation, “he said
The former COAS also said that he saw no use for soldiers to mount road blocks amd check if police had discharged its duty effectively.

President Goodluck Jonathan’s performance rating has declined

President Goodluck Jonathan’s performance rating has declined on 14% after the failures in realizing Chibok girls and ceasefire-deal with Boko Haram terrorists, Nigerian Tribune informs.
President’s rating is low especially in the northern region. Such decline is caused by dashed hopes of Nigerians to achieve a higher level of national security.

According to results realised by NOIPolls for October, 14-points decline comes after September’s peak of 74 percent.
Survey shows a general decline of Jonathan’s rating across all geo-political zones with the greatest decline seen in the North- East (28-points) and the North-West (26-points) zones.
NOIPolls survey is based on the key elements of governmental policy including, ‘job creation’, ‘power’ ‘economy’, ‘health’, ‘education’, ‘agriculture and food security’, ‘transportation’ and ‘foreign policy and diplomacy’ as average.
However, his performance on ‘security’ was rated as very poor, implying that Nigerians are not satisfied with his achievement on this key area of his transformation agenda. In addition, an assessment of the current state of power revealed a worsened state in power supply to Nigerian households as reported by 47 per cent of the respondents with a higher proportion from the North-Central zone (58%).
“This poor state of power supply experienced by households across the nation was generally due to the drop in generated power by 1,000 megawatts in October 2014. Finally, this setback in power supply also contributed to the downward direction of the president’s approval rating in October. “

Gunmen Stole Dynamites From Ashaka Cement Factory

Alarm was raised as it was learnt that suspected Boko Haram militants allegedly stole dynamites from a cement factory near Gombe following the Tuesday attack.
The Nation reports that 8 truck loads of dynamites were carried away from Ashaka Cement. It would be recalled that the gunmen stormed Nafada, having blown a police station and the PDP secretariat, and then robbed a bank.
The largest cement factory  in Northern Nigeria was reportedly raided at about 3pm. An employee, Amadu Wunti, said the attackers looted high explosives.
His words were confirmed by several other witnesses, with one of them saying:
“They [the militants] pulled out after the raid. They did not hurt or kidnap anyone. But they took eight company vehicles and lots of dynamite used in quarry work. The attackers, which included young women, broke into the store and loaded dynamite into the vehicles and drove off.”
It would be recalled that on November 2 terrorists used dynamite to blast open a jail in Kogi State having allowed 132 prisoners to escape.
Members of the BringBackOurGirls group blasted the authorities for hiding the facts about the stolen dynamites. Dr Eman Shehu said:
“When Boko Haram attacked the Ashaka Cement factory in Gombe, what the government and military failed to tell Nigerians is that Boko Haram carted away with dynamites and food stuff. This is really a dangerous situation because those dynamites can be used by the insurgents to create more explosives that will create more havoc.”
The preliminary investigation showed that suspected insurgents raided the cement factory for explosives for their operation and “perhaps for more dastardly attacks”, a senior military source disclosed, adding however that they failed to do that due to the timely interference of the military.
“But they did not succeed at all because they could not get the explosives. And troops were quickly mobilised to repel them. We have regained the control of the area. And security has been beefed up in all parts of Gombe State.”

Today the streets of India, Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan and some other Muslim countries are fully packed with people covered in blood.

The Day of Ashura is a national holiday in some Muslim countries, such as Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Bahrain, Turkey and Pakistan. Thousands of Muslims  take part in annual rituals which include people whipping and cutting themselves with chains and knives.

The event is dedicated to Imam Hussein ibn Ali, the younger grandson of the Prophet Mohammad, who died in battle of Karbala on 10 Muharram 1,300 years ago. Imam Husayn was martyred along with his children, companions and near relatives by the Umayyad Caliph Yazid I.

Some Shi’a believe that taking part in Ashura washes away their sins. People of all ages were seen drenched in blood during the processions, children with blood pouring from their head wounds carried knives  while men with open wounds and scars lashed each other.
