Fight Against Boko Haram: Police Have Failed Us - Ex-Army Chief

Ex Chief of Army Staff,  Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), has blasted the nations police force saying their lackluster behavior paved way to the spread of Boko Haram in the north.Dambazau A.B COAS Former COAS. Dambazau He said that the police have failed to in the discharge of its statutory duties and thats why the army now had to take over the Northeast where the insurgency have crippled the socio-economic activities. Dambazau revealed this after giving a lecture titled:”Education, Security and National Development: The Case of Nigeria” Wednesday at the 61st Interdisciplinary Research Discourse organised by the Post Graduate School, University of Ibadan. He went on to state that due to the failure of the police force, soldiers had to be deployed in these parts of the nation. He said: “The activities of Boko Haram have affected the education of the Northeast and it’s spreading across the whole of northern region. Security is a contemporary challenge we are facing as a nation. The world can never have peace except people have peace in their daily lives.
“It will impossible for nations to achieve any of its major goals without adequate security. We don’t have a functional law enforcement institution in this country and it’s a major problem for the nation, “he said
The former COAS also said that he saw no use for soldiers to mount road blocks amd check if police had discharged its duty effectively.
